Little girls are sure to love creating a home for one of their favorite TV characters with this Dora the Explorer Magical Welcome House from Fisher-Price. Decorated in bright colors, this folding doll house features eight rooms, a working lamp, and fun sound effects. Super-cool "hot spots" let your child safely plug in additional electronic accessories. The Magical Welcome House is designed for children three and above, since small doll house accessories may pose a choking hazard.

Straight out of the box, it's easy to see that this bright orange, plastic doll house with its pink "tile" roof was inspired by the bold colors that make the animated Dora the Explorer so much fun to watch. Eight rooms in four sections ensure that there's lots of places for Dora and her guests to explore and decorate, and a unique, folding design lets you configure the house in several ways.
When your child pushes down the chimney, an automatic release makes it seem like the house is magically unfolding to great her. This feature works best on smooth, even floors, and we found the plastic locks that hold the house open a little tricky to engage, so you may need to help your child with them.
Before your child starts helping Dora get settled in this welcoming doll house, you'll need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to insert three AA batteries (not included) in the bottom of the house. This powers fun greetings and a working lamp.
An Interactive Space to Share with Imaginative Friends
What really separates the Magical Welcome House from other doll houses is a fun set of interactive features. When a visitor presses the doorbell, a musical greeting from Dora is activated. She might ask, "Ready for an adventure at my house?" Opening the fridge is accompanied by an appropriate saying, too. Children can work these exclamations into their games, making "Snack time!" extra fun. When it's dinnertime, hopefully they'll remember that "Even explorer's need to stop to eat."
There are three "hot spots" in the house, one each in the playroom, living room, and kitchen. These let your child safely plug in special "working" accessories, like the lamp that comes with the house. When the lamp is plugged in, simply press the bottom on its base and it will stay illuminated for a full 30 seconds. Other available accessories include a bilingual stand-up clock and a microwave that talks (not included.)
Overall, our one complaint about this cool house is that it only comes with one sofa, one Dora doll, and one lamp. This means that additional accessories (sold separately) are necessary to fill the house and ensure maximum fun, especially if more than one child wants to play at a time. But this can be easily remedied.
However, the accessories that are included are lots of fun. The Dora doll has soft, rooted hair that offers a tactile element to play time. Her arms and legs swing back and forth, so that she can be positioned sitting or standing in several ways. Although, we were slightly disappointed that she can't turn her head or bend her elbows and knees. Additionally, the locking hinges and the "spring open" action are great features, but we are concerned about their durability over time.
Occasionally, the house sprung open when we wanted it closed, surprising and frustrating us. Since this colorful, interactive doll house is sure to become a favorite toy that will get a lot of use, and its plastic body seems sturdy enough to handle the activity, you might simply want to find a semi-permanent location for it. This will help preserve the action of the moving parts, and it will keep the doll house more easily accessible.
What's in the Box
Dollhouse, Dora figure, sofa, lamp, and instruction booklet.
Snorta! is the family game where everyone acts like an animal! The race is on to get rid of your cards. After each player hides an animal figure in their barn, everyone starts flipping over their cards and the BARNYARD BEDLAM BEGINS! Whenever two cards match, players must blurt out the sound of each other’s hidden animal – and whoever squawks last has to take their opponent’s cards! First player out of cards wins! Snorta! comes with 12 fully painted animal figures – a cat, a cow, a dog, a donkey, a duck, a frog, a mouse, an owl, a pig, a rooster, a sheep and a snake. Each player chooses one of these animals from the cloth grab bag then hides it under one of 8 plastic barns. Finally, the deck of 96 cards, featuring quirky illustrations of each animal, gets dealt to all the players. Simple as that and you’re ready to play! Snorta is quick and easy to learn, but as players start turning over their cards faster and faster, the game quickly becomes more and more challenging. Can you spot a match before your opponents do? Will you remember what kind of animal is hidden in their barns? Get ready to laugh as tongue-tied players stumble and stutter to blurt out the sounds of each other’s undercover animals – it’s a real HOOT! SNORTA! will have you HOWLING with laughter!
This needs to come with a mortgage
Sure it looks great! Now imagine it totally empty with Dora sitting around lonely on a couch because that's what it comes with.(Ok she gets a lamp too) Now imagine all the part time jobs Dora will have to work to afford the furniture and friends to go in the house. I believe it averages around $25 a room. We made the mistake of not checking before we got the house. Don't make the same mistake we did. I am very disappointed in fisher-price for what I would call a scam. I'm generally very happy with their products, but this is a rip-off. Heck, they should give away the house just to get people to buy all the accessories.
Fisherprice just lost a client.
I consider myself a great Fisherprice's customer. 2 months ago I bought Dora's kitchen for my 3yo girl for $99.00 - it's a big talking kitchen, with pans, telephone. A great toy. I didn't think twice when she asked me for the Dora's Dollhouse. It cost me $99.00 too, so I thought... wow.. it must be complete.
I almost cried when I saw the expression on my daughter's face this Christmas morning, when she was looking for the the rest of the things that clearly shows up on the BOX but it's not included on the house.
I felt like ROBBED. $99 for a chinese plastic house? come on. Fisherprice just lost a great customer.
I am really disapointed... I saw that other victms felt the same way... I just wanted also to document my deception. They should at least MAKE CLEAR on the box that the house comes EMPTY.
Pragmatic
90 bucks gets you an empty house. Only 3 outlets(aka hotspots)- so if you buy all the accessories for each room(like I did) - you won't have anywhere to plug in the furniture-very disappointing. My 4 & 6 year old are enjoying the dollhouse.
